Acceptance

I belong in this moment;
to those my heart holds dear -
but I am no ones belonging

I belong to myself;
feel a sense of home within -
all places with welcome open arms

To my thoughts I can belong,
until fluid thoughts run free -
set in time worn words as mine

I belong where accepted;
I accept where I belong –
Without acceptance I am left to be - longing...

Written in response to our prompt from this week’s POW Destiny:

Destiny’s prompt guidelines

Compose a free verse poem of no more than 12 lines on the theme of ‘belonging’.

Each of us interprets this word uniquely, and its significance may evolve throughout various stages of our lives. Feel free to delve into your personal reflections and follow where your thoughts take you.

Personally, I quite like the way Frank puts it:

This walk is not about what belongs to him, her, or me. It’s not about possessions. It’s about acceptance, connection, fellowship, affinity, association, community, and integration – to be included – to feel a sense of belonging.

  • Note: You’re not obligated to adhere to any particular interpretation; feel free to explore and share your own thoughts, understanding, and sense of ‘belonging’.

    1. Hello Frank, thank you for your comment – I do like Beach Walks and Reflections but sorry I hadn’t realised I had done this …sorry… I did accidently when I shared the prompt, so your thanks should be with Destiny …. Afraid inspiration for me comes from a word prompt, and then it happens in my mind …. but I have had a look and will look again 😊

    1. Thank you…. ☺️. You would think so but to stay belonging to yourself is hard. If I get asked somewhere that I really don’t feel comfortable, maybe I don’t feel I fit in or belong, it makes me feel anxious, so I don’t go… it can make me unliked by some, but I can take that, I just have found over the years I have to do what feels right not always what others want …. Freedom costs …! If that makes sense. I am pleased you liked my poem 💞
