24 Seasons Syllabic Poetry Challenge, No. 32, 30/4/24, Part II Grain Rain

This week Colleen gives us the writing invitation to experiment with the renga form:

"The month of April is ending, and it’s time for #TankaTuesday’s 24 Seasons Syllabic Poetry challenge. This week, the invitation is to try the renga form, creating a cooperative poem with alternating stanzas. A chance to get creative and have fun!"

Colleen has given us the first hokku and we respond with the wakiku. Then we provide the hokku and Colleen will respond with her wakiku - which you can read in the comments.

Colleen's hokku:
an empty attic
the sound of April showers
thunderous rumblings

My (Suzanne’s) reply – wakiku

birds squat with nests in the eves
fledglings flap their fluffy wings

My hokku: (kigo Summer sun)

open buds deepen
Summer sun waits in the wings
sonorous beauty

Colleen’s response – wakiku

my dandelion lawn blooms
with the sounds of bees at work

Colleen’s response first appeared in the comments….. which I have now added here for ease of reading…

Updated: If anyone else would like to add their own response wakiku in the comments I would love to read….😊 Suzanne

  1. How fun is this? I love it and the word “sonorous.” ❣️ Great job!!

      1. Same here. I love how the hokku (haiku) gives us the season. The last two lines are more spontaneous. They can lead the reader in unexpected ways. We’ll do this again. I think it’s worth the time and effort.
