April Opens … and Closes

April
wary start month
before the clock strikes noon
listen out for practical jokes
harmless fun a custom
for what reason
fools’ day
business year-end
time to sum up the year
into numbers; profit and loss
no interest in words
just bottom line
counts here
changeable month
short-circuited moments
shafts of rain to showers of sun
invigorate my skin
with opposites
fresh starts
sweet fragrance lifts
my mood; draws me outside
sleepy layers peel from my eyes
natures song in my ears
brightness awakes
colour
flutters then blooms
outdoor plans spring to life
tastebuds turn from comfort to light
time to lose weight this month
Déjà vu thoughts
for me every
April

This Weeks POW Heather (Sgeoil) gave us the following prompt:

  • Write a poem about… April!

What comes to mind when you think of the month of April?

Draw from your memories, your five senses, activities you associate with the month… go wherever this prompt takes you! See more about this prompt here

I chose to write a Behrquain Swirl: little found about this form, but I liked the shape and changeability of it which fit my thoughts on this prompt, like the ebb and flow, ups and downs of April….

Poetic form:: Behrquain Swirl A poem of 30 lines, a syllabic form invented by Madison Shaw, aka Arkbear on Allpoetry 2/4/6/8/6/4/2/4/6/8/6/4/2/4/6/8/6/4/2/4/6/8/6/4/2/4/6/8/6/4/2 the form should be centered with care given to appearance.

  1. “Outdoor plans spring to life”– so relatable! Where I live it’s the season where everyone starts to come out of their self-imposed hibernation and the calendars seem to fill up in moments. 😀
