A Writer’s Dream

A Double Etheree Poem

Real photos taken from my step-dad’s past used on the cover of my mum’s book (2013)
Seeds
of words
germinate;
sentences form
characters are born
life given in fiction
creation grows in chapters
steadily expanding the plot
paragraph by paragraph each day
until the author is left depleted

Scanning the cover she opened her book
inhaled the smell of her printed words
greeted once more by old friends past
who came to life in her hand
they hadn't aged at all
now forever joined
bound together
by her words
once just
seeds

This poem I decided to write on National Poetry Day but didn’t want to publish until I had read it to my mum and be given her permission. I have done this today so now dedicate this poem to my mum, pen name Pamela Darling. My thoughts on how I watched and supported as she wrote, lived with her characters and got her book published. I don't think I am up to writing a book (although I would love to) but this is the way I write to say how proud I am of her. One Hidden Truth was written as a gift for my step-dad - a possible version of his past that they tried to piece together in research, but obviously resulted in a work of fiction. He is sadly passed now, but lives on ......
